7 Reasons To Learn To Code & Become A Software Developer

Hey, what's up, everyone? I'm Dorian, and if you're new here, this is where I share my journey and experiences as a self-taught developer. My goal? To motivate and guide those teaching themselves to code or anyone curious about starting. So, why did I dive into the world of coding? Let me walk you through my seven reasons, which might just inspire you too.

1. I Needed A Change

At 31, with a family on the horizon, I was parking cars at a strip club, yearning for something more fulfilling and challenging. With no prior IT experience, I embarked on the journey of self-learning. It was daunting but exhilarating.

2. A Passion for IT and Computers

Always the tech geek and gamer, I yearned for a computer-related job but doubted my capabilities. The myths around programming intimidated me until I realized they were just that — myths. This revelation was my stepping stone into programming.

3. Flex Time and Unlimited Vacation

The allure of flexible schedules and the freedom to work as I pleased were irresistible. Though the reality was somewhat different, the perks and benefits in tech jobs were undeniably attractive.

4. The Potential Money

The idea that programming could be a lucrative career without the need for a traditional four-year degree was a game-changer. With minimal investment in learning resources, the return on investment seemed almost too good to be true.

5. The Opportunity to Work Remotely

The digital nomad lifestyle was captivating. The possibility of working from anywhere in the world was a dream I wanted to turn into reality. While family responsibilities meant I couldn't jet off to Bali, the flexibility to work remotely was a major draw.

6. Entrepreneurship and Freelancing

Coding opened up avenues for entrepreneurship and freelancing. The freedom to be my own boss and choose projects aligned with my interests was empowering.

7. A Sustainable Career Path

Entering my 30s, I sought a career that was not only fulfilling but also sustainable. Coding, with its intellectual rather than physical demands, promised a career that could extend well into my golden years.

These reasons fueled my journey to becoming a self-taught software developer. It's a path filled with challenges and learning, but immensely rewarding.
