Get Motivated & Stay Dedicated To Become A Self-Taught Programmer

Hey everyone, I'm Dorian, and today, I'm sharing my journey and insights on staying motivated and dedicated while learning to code. If you're on this path, this is for you.

Starting out, I wasn't the poster child for motivation. My life took a sharp turn when my wife and I were expecting our first child. That was the wake-up call I needed. Suddenly, the prospect of learning to code wasn't just appealing; it was necessary.

The Motivation-Dedication Balance

Initially, everything about coding was exciting. But like many self-taught programmers, I hit a wall. The novelty wore off, and the reality of the grind set in. Here's the thing—motivation gets you started, but it's dedication that carries you through.

"Getting started is by far one of the hardest things to do in anything you do in life."

I learned that the hard way. It wasn't enough to want to code; I had to commit to it, daily. Even on days when I couldn't code, I immersed myself in the world of development through blogs, books, and videos.

Daily Coding: The Non-Negotiable

Coding every day, even in small doses, made a monumental difference. It's about building a habit, a routine that keeps you anchored no matter what. When you can't sit in front of your computer, use whatever resources you have at hand to stay in the loop.

Finding Your Why

Your motivation is your own. It could be financial stability, a desire to build something meaningful, or simply the thrill of solving problems. Whatever it is, keep it close to your heart. When the going gets tough, remember why you started.

The Power of Community

No self-taught journey should be solitary. Connect with others on the same path. Use social media, forums like Reddit, and platforms like Stack Overflow to your advantage. We're living in a time where remote learning and networking are more accessible than ever.

Staying Inspired

On days when self-doubt creeps in, turn to motivational content. It might sound cliché, but listening to inspirational speeches or videos can reignite that inner drive. Remember, it's about keeping that flame alive, even on your lowest days.

"Just trust me, stick with it... they don't realize how close they were to actually achieving what they were setting out to do."

To all aspiring programmers out there, this journey is as rewarding as it is challenging. Stay motivated, stay dedicated, and most importantly, stay on your path. You've got this.
